The Oliva Cain 550 Habano Natural cigar is a super premium handmade cigar from the famous Tabacalera Oliva factory in Nicaragua. Using an exclusive straight ligero blend with a dash of Seco and Viso to keep the cigar burning straight and slow, the tobacco goes through a triple-fermentation process to ensure the smoke is smooth and flavorful. A nutty, coffee and wood base accentuated by mocha and spice - the flavors are rich and balanced all while providing an unmatched nicotine kick.

Behind The Stick:
A cigar bread out of the mind of one man on the hunt to make one nicotine bomb of a cigar and turn it into something that could be enjoyed from the start to finish. Sam Leccia of former Nub Cigars is the man who created these pieces of history, which much like Sam's tales as a former whiskey sales man's - remains partially cloaked. What we do know, is that these cigars come with a triple ligero filler as the backbone and are now being produced by the Oliva cigar company. These leaves get the most sunlight and are known for being very aromatic as well as containing a lot of oils that is known for causing issues with burn qualities but are rewarded with strength and flavor.
While some of us may be expecting this nicotine rich and full flavor tail kicking from the Cain line of cigars, they always have a way to keep us on our toes. Using a triple fermentation process that is similar to the Cuban Cohiba brands methods, the tobacco responds with a very smooth and distinct spice. It has been reported that they use more than just ligero, about 82% of the stick contains the dark, flavorful Ligero, but this triple fermentation over the 2 years of maturation makes the smoothness something that cannot be matched. Spicy, full body and full flavor with a nicotine kick that some have said should carry a warning label... onto the review!
Construction:
Whenever it comes to "unique" cigars it, more often than not due to their 'unique' nature there is something off - the wrapper may be discolored, the seams may have cracked due to the unique shape, the burn may be off because of the types of tobacco used. The wrapper is dark but evenly colored with just the slightest bit of give at the foot. Once lit, the cigar burned like a champ even though I was looking for any type of irregular burn due to the high level of ligero used - can't argue with success!
Flavor:
With a starting foreground of coffee and wood, a hint of a precarious sweet note that I just couldn't put my finger on. Notes of leather enter the mix, changing in intensity with the coffee and wood core from start to finish making this cigar just complex enough to keep your interest. Surprisingly enough, the end of this cigar never turned bitter but rather left you wanting to light another up right away!
Overall:
When these cigars were created, the main intent was on intensity both with nicotine and with flavor - and they really nailed it on the head. While Sam Leccia may have started with the Nub line of cigars, it has been said that his real passion and talents went into the creation of the Cain line, and trust me it shows!
